I recently stumbled across this handy tool on the 'net.
Page ViewState Parser
It allows you to get a full object graph of whats in the __VIEWSTATE hidden field. It's suprising what's all stored in there. It makes it alot more apparent why most folks recommend disabling ViewState on controls unless you really need it.
